John Vickers

John Vickers is the organizer of a number of area charity events in the Capital Region.

Vickers may be best known as the artist and creator of Pumpkin Art, a display of intricately carved pumpkins which appeared at Government House in Victoria for a number of years. His unique jack-o-lantern display has raised over $150,000 in charity donations and has been presented at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto on behalf of UNICEF Canada.

In 2005, Vickers established the Victoria Masquerade Ball, billed as
“ Victoria’s Black Tie Event of the Year.” The Ball quickly became a sell out event, attracting masquerading couples in 2008 from as far away as California.

“The inclusion of Ballet Victoria in our pre-show program as well as being fortunate enough to have the best swing band in British Columbia makes for one spectacular show”, says Vickers adding he is continually impressed by how much the bar is being raised in terms of what people are wearing.

“So many costumes and masks were absolutely amazing at last year’s event with some people indicating they spent months working on their designs.”

Vickers hopes to raise $30,000.00 at this year’s Ball in support of the Victoria Youth Clinic, who provide front line health services to area youth.
